As an Energy Analyst, Zequn works with Community Power to improve energy efficiency in Indigenous communities through energy modelling, energy consumption analysis, and energy management planning. He is very passionate about increasing the energy efficiency and sustainability outcomes of older homes through building retrofits.
Zequn holds a Master of Science in Building Science from the University of Alberta, where he specialized in the design and evaluation of energy efficient homes. He also competed Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering from Dalian University of Technology in China before moving to Canada in 2016. Zequn is also currently an Engineer in Training with the Engineers and Geoscientists of BC.
While working as a Sustainability Scholar for Capital Region Housing in Alberta, Zequn acquired extensive experience in the development of sustainable residential buildings. He researched 50+ environmentally sustainable actions – such as heat recovery, geothermal, and smart control – that could be realistically and economically incorporated into an affordable housing model to achieve a minimum 25% reduction in greenhouse gas emission and energy consumption.
