Kwadacha Nation is an off-grid community located at Fort Ware in north-central British Columbia. Since 2012, Community Power has worked in partnership with Kwadacha Nation to achieve its sustainability goals including reducing reliance on diesel generators for electricity, make electricity more affordable for residents and create more safer, healthier and more energy efficient homes for the community. These initiatives are part of an on-going multi-phase energy efficiency plan funded by Kwadacha Nation, BC Hydro, Indigenous Services Canada and the BC Ministry of Energy and Mines.
Kwadacha Nation was awarded the 2014 BC Clean Energy Award for Environmental Stewardship and Community Improvement for their energy leadership. With their successes to back them up, Kwadacha Nation and Community Power are continuing to pursue projects together that will bring the community closer to their self-sustainability goals.
Kwadacha Nation started our energy efficiency journey with Community Power
seven years ago and we’ve reduced our energy use by 40%.
We had a strong vision of self-sustainability and worked together to make it happen.
